IEC 62301 — Scope Check: Not a Lightning-Protection Standard

IEC 62301 is sometimes typed accidentally when IEC 62305 is intended. It should not be used as a lightning-protection design basis.

Actual scope of IEC 62301

IEC 62301:2026 specifies measurement methods for standby power and other non-active modes of electrical/electronic appliances and equipment.

Why it is excluded from this LPS design engine

Its scope is energy/power measurement in standby/non-active modes, not lightning risk management, external LPS, earthing, bonding or surge-protection design.

Correct lightning series

For lightning-protection design, use IEC 62305 Parts 1–4 and relevant supporting component/SPD standards such as IEC 62561 and IEC 61643.
