Electrical-service integration
Lightning protection must be coordinated with the building electrical installation rather than designed as an isolated roof system. Service entry, earthing, bonding, switchboards, sensitive systems and equipment interfaces matter.
Indian standards referenced around electrical installations
BIS material associated with the electrical-installation section lists IS 732:2019, IS 3043:2018, IS/IEC 62305 Parts 1–4:2010 and SP 30:2023 among important standards/special publications, while also noting that standards under revision should be updated when revised versions become available.
Earthing relationship
Protective earthing, equipotential bonding, system earthing and lightning earth termination have different purposes and must be coordinated. The website should avoid presenting a single resistance value or one-pit-per-down-conductor rule as universally sufficient.
Design documentation
For final approval/review, the project package should include the LPS layout, risk-assessment basis, air-termination method, down-conductor routing, earth termination, bonding/SPD concept, calculations, BOQ and revision/approval information.
Engineering Reference Table
| Project document | Why needed |
|---|---|
| Roof / elevation drawings | Air-termination and down-conductor geometry. |
| Electrical SLD | SPD, bonding, service-entry coordination. |
| Earthing layout | Earth termination / bonding integration. |
| Risk assessment | Protection requirement and measures. |
| BOQ / specification | Procurement and installation scope. |
Project Implementation Checklist
For an actual project, record the applicable standard edition, risk-assessment assumptions, approved drawings, selected design method, calculation revision, component specification, inspection/testing requirements and final engineering approval.
